Product Overview
| Description | Cortisol, or Hydrocortisone, is a steroid hormone, more specifically a glucocorticoid, produced by the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland. Cortisol is released in response to stress and a low level of blood glucocorticoids. Its primary functions are to increase blood sugar through gluconeogenesis; suppress the immune system; and aid in fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. Applications: Suitable for use as an antigen in immunological protocols. Other applications have not been tested. Recommended Dilutions: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder can be stored dessicated at 4°C. Lyophilized product is stable for 12 months after receipt at 4°C. Cortisol solutions are best made fresh daily; however a standard stock solution of cortisol can be prepared in ethanol and single-use aliquots of stock solution can be stored at -20°C for several weeks. |
